Holidays in Umbria & the surrounding area
Halfway between Italy’s two major art cities, Rome and Florence. Ideally situated on the A1 – North/South motorway and mainline Milan/ Naples railway network. The magnificent Duomo on top of the hill is a must to see and you can spend a leisurely day exploring the town and the underground caves. Car parking is about half way up the hill and the ‘ascensore’ inside the cliff will take you up to Orvieto town – don’t forget to sample the famous Orvieto Classico wine.
Orvieto Scalo
‘The Lower Town’ – get your train here to Florence or Rome (remember to get your ticket stamped at the station before boarding). For a bit of fun use the funicular up to the medieval town on top of the hill. It is also the access point on the A1 motorway to travel south.
Ficulle
This enchanting tiny medieval local village is only 6kms away. It has several food shops, bars and pizzerias where you can buy all your essential needs for your holiday. This is a fine wine making area and is also famous for its truffles.
Fabro Scalo
This is the nearest town (15kms) with a larger Coop supermarket and is the access point on to the A1 motorway to travel north.
